COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Montana State University will host the grand opening of Veterans Park on Oct. 10 from 3 to 4 p.m.—the park features two flagpoles for the American and Montana flags and seven stone pillars representing the six military branches, prisoners of war and those missing in action. Director Todd Bucher will kick off the event at 3:20 p.m. with a ribbon cutting and a performance of the national anthem will follow. KBZK
- ➤ Joe Nigro from Lockwood broke Montana’s state record for the heaviest pumpkin with a 1,591-pound gourd he grew in his backyard and entered at the weigh-off in Worland on Saturday. He and his partner Sidney Sipe won $600 for the record— and they plan to grow an even bigger pumpkin next year. KBZK
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices dropped 2.6¢ per gallon in Montana over the past week — the average reached $3.12 on Monday, Oct. 6. They are 12.7¢ lower than a month ago and 9.1¢ lower than a year ago. KBZK
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Bozeman lawmakers passed Senate Bill 471 which increases fines for drivers who do not stop at crosswalks — drivers face fines from $25 to $100 on a first offense and tougher penalties when pedestrian beacons flash. KBZK
- ➤ Bozeman will end vehicle living permits as of November 1 under Ordinance 2172—residents living in campers or tents may face fines of up to $500 per day while the city partners with non-profits to connect affected individuals with housing. KBZK
- ➤ Organizations are pushing new proposals to put constitutional amendments on Montana’s 2026 ballot, and one group wants to change the ballot measure process to give voters more time to gather signatures. Other proposals on property tax limits, corporate spending, and judicial election language are under review to meet legal requirements — efforts that could change how ballot measures are advanced. - ➤ The Gallatin Gateway Fire District celebrated the opening of a new satellite fire station on Graves Trail off Highway 191 to meet rising call volume in the rapidly growing Four Corners area, and Fire Chief Jeremiah Hillier said the modern facility has two empty bays for extra engines + amenities for overnight staffing.
