ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sept. 5, a small accidental fire damaged a utility building housing power equipment at Hyalite Youth Camp in Hyalite Canyon — fire crews quickly controlled the blaze within 30 minutes with no injuries and officials determined the cause was accidental.  KBZK

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday, Bozeman police responded to a 911 call about three men on the 19th Avenue overpass holding Nazi-linked signs with messages like 'self-deport while you can' and 'white lives matter'—officers did not act as the men were exercising their First Amendment rights.  KBZK
  • Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks game wardens are investigating vandalism in Region 4 after graffiti was spray-painted at Rainbow Dam trailhead, trees were destroyed at Giant Springs State Park and a fence was knocked down at Sluice Boxes State Park.  KBZK
  • A 30-year-old Mexican national, Rigonaldo Diaz-Chixna, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison — three years of supervised release — after being arrested in Bozeman on December 10th, 2024 for illegally re-entering the United States following a prior deportation and felony conviction.  KBZK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montana State’s Off-Campus Student Life will expand its support for off-campus students this fall — starting with free Uber rides on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 5 p.m. to roughly 3 a.m. The office also offers housing advice, childcare referrals and free daytime bus rides funded by student fees to further assist students.  Bozeman Magazine
  • Belgrade School District has proposed two bonds for a new elementary school to move fifth graders from the middle school based on family surveys—voters will decide in November. If approved, construction will aim for a fall opening with an optional gym bond adding extra space.  MontanaRightNow

  • Governor Greg Gianforte joined the Montana Tow Truck Drivers Association as a new memorial was unveiled in Three Forks to honor fallen tow operators (including two struck on I-90 in October 2020 and three others) who died in the line of duty.  MontanaRightNow
