CRIME NEWS

  • Gallatin County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Forest Service investigated an assault at Hyalite Reservoir on September 1 at 10:30 p.m.+ a woman used pepper spray by the dam's restrooms to fend off a middle-aged man with auburn hair who fled, and deputies are now seeking him with reports noting a Dodge pickup in faded blue or green and a dog with a red collar.  MontanaRightNow
  • The Haven Shelter in Bozeman reported a rise in domestic violence support with a 77% increase in bed nights and a 23% jump in support line calls, while Gallatin County saw a 17% rise in related crime. Executive Director Katie Madison said the nonprofit is the only organization offering help to survivors of abuse, sex trafficking and stalking—underscoring the growing need for its services.  MontanaRightNow

  • Jessica Hays, a Bozeman high school teacher and longtime wildfire photographer, released her photobook with 80 images and essays that document the impact of the Bridger Foothills Fire—highlighting the emotional toll of wildfires across the West.   • Downtown Bozeman Partnership started a pedlet program to give restaurants like Bitterroot Bistro more outdoor seating.   • Five years ago, the Bridger Foothills Fire burned over 8,000 acres and destroyed 68 structures, and its lessons have since shaped firefighter training in our town.
