- ➤ A family of three became stranded near West Yellowstone on August 14 after their e-bikes lost battery power, prompting a 911 call that led search & rescue and local law enforcement to use side-by-side off-highway vehicles to bring them safely back to town while advising outdoor adventurers to carry extra essentials for emergencies. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On August 12, Gallatin County transferred two homicide cases to state prosecutors because of staffing challenges—one case involves Chris Foiles, accused of murdering his girlfriend at a Bozeman Walmart parking lot in 2023, and the other involves Darren Abbey, charged with killing Dustin Kjersem near Big Sky in 2024, with trials set for October 27 and in November. - ➤ A lightning-caused wildfire that was reported on August 13 is burning at 2,505 acres south of Cliff Lake—local crews continue to battle the Horn Fire. Evacuation warnings remain for residents along Montana Highway 87 and Madison River Ranch—smoke may be visible from HWY 287 and HWY 87. KBZK
- ➤ On Aug. 14th, officials reported that harmful algal blooms were found when cyanobacteria grew too high in warm, nutrient-rich water — causing risks of illness for people, fish, and animals. - ➤ Today, Montana homeowners who have lived in their primary residence for at least seven months can start applying for a property tax rebate for 2024 payments, available online or by paper until Oct. 1—applicants must provide personal and tax details to qualify for up to $400. KBZK

- ➤ Cover Montana announced that it will cut in-person health insurance help and lay off staff starting in September after its federal funding dropped from $1.25 million to $125,000—it will instead assist applicants by phone and online as open enrollment begins on November 1. KBZK
