- ➤ The Bozeman Symphony will begin its 58th season in mid-September with a concert that features acclaimed violinist Hannah Ji playing Marsalis’ Violin Concerto and Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances at Willson Auditorium downtown. The events will be held on Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 21 at 2:30 p.m. — they honor America’s 250th anniversary. Bozeman Magazine
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montana State’s Spirit of the West Marching Band reached its long-held goal by registering over 200 members, including freshman Hollie Banks as its 200th — from students representing over 20 states and 40 majors — due to boosted scholarships and university support. The band will start its seven-day camp on Aug. 20 — where it will rehearse for fall games — to prepare for upcoming performances on campus and at community events. Bozeman Magazine

- ➤ A new fire in Madison County has led to the closure of Highway 87 between Highway 287 and U.S. 20 near Raynold's Pass—officials advise drivers to use alternate routes while fire crews monitor the situation. MontanaRightNow
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bozeman Municipal Court and HRDC will host the first Food for Fines event on Sept. 5—8 a.m. to 4 p.m.—at the Bozeman Public Safety Center, where defendants making monthly fine payments can donate non-perishable food to receive a $10 credit per item with a limit of 20 items to reduce their fines and stock local food banks. - ➤ Since August 2023, ordinance 2172 has reduced urban camping in Bozeman by moving nearly 30 campers—some still holding personal items—and processing 140 vehicles while city official Ben Bailey focused on finding housing for those remaining. The city will close the permitted area near WinCo by the end of August and end camping altogether in October. KBZK
- ➤ Firefighters from across the country are participating in a 40-hour confined space rescue training in Big Sky today, held at the construction site of the future Big Sky Aspire Gym and Recreation Center—where instructors from Nashville, Chicago, and Phoenix share specialized techniques. The training will be accredited in two days and is co-hosted by Martel and local officials to prepare crews for tight-space emergencies. KBZK
