ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A new study by Simmrin Law Group revealed that Montana ranked second nationwide for fatal summer road crashes per capita, averaging 6.33 deaths per 100,000 residents from June to August over five years—this rate is 85% higher than the national average. The study noted that high-speed rural roads, vacation traffic, and driver fatigue contributed to the elevated numbers—officials call for improved infrastructure and enforcement.  Bozeman Magazine

CRIME NEWS

  • Gallatin County announced a partnership with the state Attorney General’s Prosecution Services Bureau to assist in prosecuting two ongoing homicide cases—one involving suspect Chris Foiles accused of murdering Megan Stedman with a trial scheduled for the end of October, and the other involving suspect Daren Abbey accused of killing Dustin Kjersem with a trial set to begin in early November.  MontanaRightNow

  • Gas prices in Montana fell 2.3¢ to $3.21 on August 11 as reported by Gasbuddy.com—prices are 5.2¢ lower than last month and 28¢ lower than last year; the cheapest was $2.86 per gallon and the most expensive was $4.19.  KBZK

  • Bozeman will host its first-ever Food for Fines event on September 5 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Bozeman Public Safety Center—defendants making monthly fine payments can earn a $10 credit per donated non-perishable item up to 20 items while meeting eligibility conditions.  MontanaRightNow
