COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bozeman City Commission and GVLT approved a new bike park named Bikefill on 66 acres with over five miles of trails designed for all skill levels and adaptive bikes. Public input will be held in the fall and construction will start next spring — the project aims to ease pressure on local trails.  KBZK
  • Residents in the Harvest Creek neighborhood voiced concerns at Tuesday's meeting over a proposed Fowler Lane development, which would add 84 affordable townhomes and duplexes to a five-acre site. City officials said the project is still in early planning and will adjust plans based on community feedback with another meeting set for Aug. 12 — they aim for housing that fits local needs.  KBZK
  • Visit Big Sky completed several community projects on July 23rd, including modern restrooms at Len Hill Park and 20 new wayfinding signs funded by lodging tax dollars. Executive Director Brad Niva said the initiatives—established in response to a 2023 Resident Tourism Survey—aim to improve both the visitor experience and local benefits, and the group will continue investing in tourism management.  Bozeman Magazine
  • Community leaders in Bozeman are building local volunteer networks and multi-generational programs to improve elder care—efforts that strengthen support and boost community well-being. The plan also tackles challenges like caregiver shortages and limited public transportation with innovative solutions and policy changes.  Bozeman Magazine

CRIME NEWS

  • Law enforcement in Gallatin, Park, and Butte-Silver Bow counties are investigating several cold cases, including the unsolved 1985 murder of Randy Church at Pizza Hut in Bozeman (a case that has remained open for over 40 years) as families and officials continue to search for vital clues.  KBZK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bozeman City Commission discussed Ordinance 2172 that limits camping on public rights of way and noted that street structures dropped from nearly 190 last November to about 36 now. City staff said the permit system for 22 current campers will sunset on October 1—while funds may be reallocated to transitional housing—amid a few cases of non-compliance.  MontanaRightNow
