CRIME NEWS

  • Austin John Clowes was charged with deliberate homicide in connection with the 2021 murder of 79-year-old Steven Kilwein after he was arrested yesterday and held on a $1,000,000 bond at Gallatin County Justice Court—he must meet strict pretrial conditions that include wearing a GPS monitor, surrendering his passport, avoiding alcohol venues, not possessing weapons, and refraining from contacting witnesses.  Bozeman Magazine

  • Montana Ballet Company announced Edna Mae Berkey as its new General Manager on Friday Jul. 11th, adding her 20 years of nonprofit arts leadership experience to boost operations and growth in training, performance, and community engagement—funded by the MJ Murdock Charitable Trust. Her appointment comes as the company expands its offerings and sustains its role as a cultural cornerstone in Bozeman.  Bozeman Magazine

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Yellowstone National Park closed the Madison River, the Firehole River, and the Gibbon River downstream of Norris Campground to fishing because high water temperatures and low flows are stressing native trout populations. Lakes and other rivers remain open from sunrise to sunset—officials will review the closures when conditions improve.  KBZK
  • Recent Texas floods have raised questions about Montana’s readiness for natural disasters. Gallatin County Chief of Emergency Management Patrick Lonergan said his team sends alerts 1-2 times a month and urged residents to keep their phone notifications on—this helps people act quickly if a crisis occurs.  KBZK
