CRIME NEWS

  • Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction Susie Hedalen faced DUI charges after Belgrade Police arrested her at 12:56 a.m. on June 22 when she was stopped for speeding and cutting off vehicles—she was booked on a misdemeanor charge and released on an $885 bond with an initial court appearance set for July 8.  KBZK
  • Search and Rescue teams are working this weekend in Bear Canyon and New World Gulch to find 63-year-old David Butzin — he was last seen November 10 and reported missing November 25. Sheriff Springer said Butzin, who was convicted of murdering his wife and their 18-month-old son in 1985, will be searched using ground crews, dogs, horseback riders, drones, aircraft, and support vehicles — officials ask anyone with information to report unusual sightings.  KBZK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Walter Fleming, the longtime director of Native American Studies at MSU, is set to retire later this summer after a 46-year career supporting Native students. He has helped more than 12,000 students succeed and built strong ties with Native communities—leaving a lasting legacy at the university.  Bozeman Magazine

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 27th, 2025, a study by personal injury lawyers from Las Vegas found that Montana is the third least immigrant-friendly state in the U.S. The study scored Montana at 9.15 out of 100 based on metrics such as foreign-born residents, naturalizations, and resident growth — highlighting low immigrant integration.  Bozeman Magazine
  • Neel Kashkari, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, held a town hall in Helena on June 26th to hear from business leaders about Montana’s struggle with housing and childcare shortages. He said global factors have complicated growth but noted that Montana’s strong energy and tech sectors remain robust — an outlook that will help shape future national economic policy.  KBZK
