GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gallatin County is developing a safety action plan to cut fatalities and serious crashes on Huffine Lane as the area grows and traffic increases. The plan, which includes improvements like a right-turn lane and pedestrian upgrades near Gooch Hill + shared-use paths, will be voted on by county commissioners next week.  KBZK
  • Bozeman’s North 7th Avenue will begin a $3.5 million construction project in July to upgrade signals, sidewalks, and roads between Main Street and Wheat Drive and finish in the fall. Local business Big O Tires worries that the work will cause traffic and block access, and the Montana Department of Transportation will host an open house on June 19 (Gallatin Room at C’mon Inn) with virtual meetings on June 24.  KBZK

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new report by the Montana Healthcare Foundation warns that the federal 'One Big Bill' may force 31,000 people to lose Medicaid coverage in Montana, with about 27,000 of them likely to be adults on the expansion and 60% of losses in rural areas. The report projects a $5.4 billion drop in federal health spending over ten years—changes include more frequent eligibility checks and new work requirements.  KBZK
