BUSINESS NEWS

  • Montana marijuana business owners face testing delays as Nordic Labs in Bozeman stopped pesticide tests after an audit and Fidelity Diagnostics in Missoula now bears all testing, with turnaround time extending from three to five days to seven to ten days. Dispensaries are already running low on products as providers struggle to keep up — industry leaders and state staff worry these delays will hurt future supplies.  KBZK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gallatin High started a new construction trades program that trains students on a gravel pad job site funded by $300,000 and local donations—students gain hands-on experience with heavy machinery donated by Williams Construction. Bozeman and Gallatin High students have 24 spots filled so far, and the program will fully launch next year.  KBZK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montana passed HB 586, which will update child car seat laws effective Oct. 1—children under 2 will ride in rear-facing seats, kids 2 to 4 will need rear- or forward-facing seats with harnesses, children 4 to 8 will require forward-facing or booster seats, and those 9 or older or who have outgrown boosters will use standard seat belts. The law aligns with federal safety standards and follows research showing proper restraints can reduce fatal injury risks in crashes.  KBZK

HEALTH NEWS

  • DPHHS announced that the Montana Farm Direct Program will switch to an electronic system for the 2025 farmers’ market season, replacing paper vouchers with direct payments to vendors. The new Electronic Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program — eFMNP will let nearly 3,200 WIC families receive $30 per eligible person to buy fresh local produce from about 110 farmers between June 1 and October 31.  KBZK
