CRIME NEWS

  • On June 1st, Bozeman police responded to a hot tub incident at 3001 S 21st Ave that resulted in the death of 48-year-old Justin Huggins — preliminary reports indicate intoxication may have played a role — and the investigation remains ongoing.  KBZK

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Out-of-state visitors spent $5.0 billion in Montana in 2024; their spending supported $3.9 billion in local economic activity and about 38,240 jobs. The University of Montana’s Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research reported 13.8 million visitors, including 753,000 through Bozeman International Airport, with spending raising over $308 million in state and local taxes.  KBZK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montana State University will end most remote work arrangements effective July 1 and many staff report feeling rushed—employees express worry over unclear office assignments and challenges with work-life balance. MSU officials said current agreements will be honored, though new requests for remote work will no longer be accepted.  KBZK
  • The Bozeman School District will launch a new construction trades program next year, and some Gallatin High School students are already operating heavy equipment to prepare construction sites—gaining hands-on skills for future careers.   • Montana farmers and ranchers face uncertainty as Congress has extended the current Farm Bill one year at a time while lawmakers work on a new five-year plan before the Sept. 30 deadline; Farm Bureau officials urge the Senate to act quickly while others worry changes may cut support for key nutrition programs.  KBZK

  • Emma Schwerin, a 17-year-old from Bozeman, became the youngest woman to climb the Seven Summits when she reached Everest on May 15—making her the youngest American woman to summit the peak. Her journey was sparked by an 8th grade class lesson and supported by her father, Sam, as she climbed the world's highest peaks.  KBZK
