Good morning, Bozeman. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 28th of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bozeman Public Library has restarted its free summer lunch program for kids after a one-year break, funded by local donations — including contributions from Intercity Radiology, Bozeman Health, and Yellowstone Orthodontics. The program will serve lunches starting June 16 to ensure children access healthy meals during the summer break.  KBZK
  • Thirteen dogs will arrive in Bozeman on Thursday, May 29 from a high-kill shelter in Texas thanks to Prairie Song Animal Rescue and its partner Dog Is My Copilot—this marks the first flight rescue this year as the dogs are set to find forever homes.  KBZK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Montana State University, librarians and faculty created free assignment templates and model cards to help teachers use generative AI responsibly—resources available under a Creative Commons license and supported by a 2024 Montana University System Teaching Scholars award.  Bozeman Magazine

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office asked Bozeman residents to help find 82-year-old Alvin G. Flowers—who was last seen on May 27 in the 2700 block of E. Mendenhall while driving his red 2000 GMC Jimmy—and warned that the elderly man, who has dementia and type 2 diabetes, is endangered.  KBZK
  • Travelers arriving at Bozeman-Yellowstone International Airport must plan for changes during the ongoing $180 million east terminal expansion that reduced baggage carousels to two and temporarily closed two gates—further work will add larger carousels, extra gates, and new food, beverage, and retail spaces, so visitors are advised to arrive two hours early and use an approved alternate ID if needed.  MontanaRightNow
  • Gov. Gianforte vetoed two health care bills today—one would have allowed early Medicaid benefits for older residents and those with disabilities and the other would have required state employee health plans to cover behavioral health screenings without cost. Lawmakers passed both bills with over two-thirds support, and they will vote by mail on whether to override the vetoes.  KBZK

HEALTH NEWS

  • During Mental Health Awareness Month, Tracey Rassley from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention discussed self-care strategies today, suggesting that simple activities like walking, reading, or spending time with pets can boost mental health. She advised scheduling regular breaks—an approach that builds resilience—and stressed that caring for oneself is vital to overall well-being.  KBZK
