EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montana teachers in Bozeman will now earn over $50,000 as starting pay following the passage of the STARS Act, which sets key metrics for pay increases. The law provides a 4.2% raise for 2025-26 and a 3% raise plus a $1,500 cost-of-living stipend for 2026-27 — measures state officials say will help address educator retention challenges. KBZK
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Greg Gianforte vetoed another 22 bills last week, raising his total vetoes this session to 28—his highest count since taking office in 2021. Some vetoed bills target transparency and spending issues while override ballots will be sent to lawmakers within 30 days. KBZK
- ➤ Gov. Gianforte signed a new Montana law last week that raises the fee for nonresident hunters from $15 to $50 while resident hunters pay $10, and it will bring in about $2.9 million each year to fund public access programs—helping landowners earn payment to open their land for hunting. The law will take effect on October 1 with about $2.5 million of the funds allocated for block management projects—supporting public hunting access. KBZK
