Good morning, Bozeman. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 20th of May.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is crowded this summer as travelers face delays amid a $180 million terminal expansion and runway extension project that shuts down the runway from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on weekdays, with the final phase wrapping up today (and new gates and tripled baggage capacity planned to boost travel once the work is complete).  KBZK

CRIME NEWS

  • Bozeman Police arrested 32-year-old Aaron Lentz on Sunday morning after he rummaged through dumpsters on North 7th Ave, threatened passersby with a lacrosse stick and assaulted a witness—he now faces charges for assault with a weapon, cruelty to animals and assault causing bodily injury with bail set at $60,000 that runs concurrently with an additional $25,000 related to his parole probation.  KBZK

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nnamdi Kanaga, a Nigerian filmmaker based in Bozeman, is screening his award-winning film 'Water Girl' today at 7:00 p.m. in Helena—his film tells the story of a Nigerian woman who faces mysterious challenges after having a child. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montana’s snowmelt is raising river levels, but Fish, Wildlife & Parks says fish are safe while warning that strong currents could risk river recreation. Morgan Jacobsen advised local anglers to fish in lakes or other safer waters until river conditions improve.  KBZK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Greg Gianforte signed House Bill 231 and Senate Bill 542 last week to change Montana’s property tax system so that most homeowners see lower taxes on their primary homes while rates rise for second homes and high-value properties starting in 2026. The law sets an interim system for 2025 with a one-time rebate of up to $400—postcards will be sent and an online portal will open Aug. 15th to Oct. 1st—while state agencies prepare to set the new homestead rates.  KBZK

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new boutique hotel is proposed for downtown Bozeman and will be discussed at the city commission meeting tonight. The six-story plan, set on a parking lot off Mendenhall Street, would have 71 guest rooms—including a restaurant, event space, and a rooftop bar—and must address a watercourse setback from Bozeman Creek.  MontanaRightNow
