  • Downtown Bozeman was filled with drums, chants, and car horns on May 3rd as hundreds gathered on Main Street for the 'Stand May Day Strong' protest organized by Indivisible Bozeman. Protesters stated they want a change in policies that favor billionaires—demanding more support for working families.  KBZK

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Seven people died in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 20 near Henry's Lake on May 1 when a tour van carrying mostly Chinese passengers collided with a pickup truck that caught fire, and emergency crews treated over 16 patients.  KBZK

CRIME NEWS

  • Carissa Heavy Runner and her family turned their grief into action after 22-year-old Mika Westwolf was struck on Highway 93 near Arlee in March 2023 and driver Sunny White was convicted and sentenced to 10 years for vehicular homicide under the influence of methamphetamine and fentanyl + the Westwolf family launched the Mika Matters Movement to support other indigenous families seeking justice.  KBZK

  • Montanans celebrated Cinco de Mayo yesterday at Fiesta Mexicana—a family-owned restaurant operating in Bozeman and other local communities—where customers enjoyed margaritas, Jell-O shots and Mexican music while honoring the historic 1862 battle of Puebla. The Murillo family, who began in Bozeman, marked the event with a festive atmosphere that showcased decades of hard work.  KBZK

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and Montana State University began tagging trout last Monday in the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Ruby and Madison rivers to study fish declines and health conditions. Anglers who catch a tagged fish—each fish bearing a unique number—should promptly report their catch for the research and may be eligible for rewards.  Bozeman Magazine

  • Bozeman Tenants United is pushing for a Tenant Right to Counsel policy that would give renters a free lawyer when facing eviction. The group held a town hall on Sunday and plans to urge residents to speak at a City Commission work session on May 13—an effort to address Bozeman’s housing crisis.  KBZK
  • The City of Bozeman announced on May 5th that 12 capital projects worth $26,315,882 will begin this construction season to upgrade water, sewer, and storm systems and improve local streets while adding new safety and transportation features. The projects are designed to manage growth in Gallatin Valley + lessen environmental impacts on local waterways.  Bozeman Magazine
