  • Bob Marshall was a dedicated forester who helped save wild lands and co-founded The Wilderness Society. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Recent federal funding cuts have raised doubts about the future of public libraries in Montana, leaving shared resources such as the digital catalog at risk. Janay Johnson from the Bozeman Library Friends and Foundation said partial funding was awarded in mid-April — full support remains uncertain — which makes planning difficult.  KBZK
  • About 80 AmeriCorps positions were cut in Montana due to federal downsizing that also reduced grants for community programs. Rural Dynamics Inc. and other groups worry they may not be able to continue key services like tax clinics as they face a growing workforce challenge — raising concerns about the future of support in the state.  KBZK
  • Senator Daines will introduce the America the Beautiful Act with Senator Angus King to add funds for parks and public lands based on the Great American Outdoors Act signed in 2020. The bill will reauthorize funding through 2033 (adding $2 billion a year) and fix maintenance backlogs (with $23.26 billion needed for the U.S. Park Service, $8.70 billion for the Forest Service, $2.65 billion for the Fish and Wildlife Service, $5.72 billion for the Bureau of Land Management and $804.5 million for the Bureau of Indian Education).  MontanaRightNow
