Good morning, Bozeman. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 26th of April.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • House Bill 551, sponsored by Representative Melissa Romano, passed a key legislative hurdle and will set aside $600,000 annually in the state budget to cover the co-payment for families on reduced-price school meal plans — over 45% of Montana public school students qualify for free or reduced-price meals. This measure moves one step closer to providing free school lunches for eligible families.  KBZK
  • The Department of Homeland Security responded to a temporary restraining order that halted the deletion of MSU international students’ SEVIS accounts, arguing that their F-1 statuses and visas remain intact. Two students—one arrested for theft and one for assault—are suing the federal government, and a hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 29 in Missoula.  MontanaRightNow
  • Lawmakers are debating changes to how marijuana tax revenue is allocated to conservation programs and other needs. The Senate passed HB 932 and the House approved SB 537 on Friday—both bills will move to the opposite chamber as the Legislature returns on Monday with eight working days remaining.  KBZK
