EDUCATION NEWS

  • Author and environmental historian Joshua Howe will become MSU’s new Wallace Stegner Endowed Chair in Western American Studies starting in August. Howe, known for his writings on climate change and the Cold War, will also launch the new Stegner Scholar Series & oversee a lecture series featuring renowned scholars.  Bozeman Magazine
  • Montana State University Extension launched its 'Profitability in Montana Agriculture' podcast series on Friday, Apr. 17 to help farmers and ranchers make informed management decisions. The series (four episodes) is now available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.  Bozeman Magazine

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Riawna Marie posted a video on Thursday, Apr. 16 showing a group of grizzlies near Dupuyer, reminding locals that Montana’s bear population is expanding from the Rocky Mountain Front to the plains + residents are advised to secure attractants for safety when outdoors.  KBZK
  • Yellowstone National Park opened its north and west entrances on Friday, Apr. 17 to welcome early season visitors despite lingering snow. The park expects an increase in traffic as spring and summer activities begin.  MontanaRightNow
  • Montana State University students & faculty will host Climate Week in Bozeman from Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24 with free events such as a women's discussion in Reid Hall, a panel after Tuesday's concert in Norm Asbjornson Hall, an electric vehicle exhibition, a nature walk and a clean-up.  Bozeman Magazine

  • Montana congressional candidate Ryan Busse’s son faces local scrutiny after a New York Post article reported his deleted social media posts and a heated interaction with local Rabbi Chaim Bruk (who suggested meeting over coffee), while Busse rejects GOP candidate Aaron Flint’s criticism.  KBZK
  • A Helena judge ruled that the state auditor’s office can continue its investigation into a Blue Cross data breach that may have exposed up to 462,000 members’ information; the probe will review whether the insurer followed state rules for breach notifications.  KBZK

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rimrock opened its Bozeman addiction treatment center in January and has served nearly 600 clients over four months, including Kris Ingwell who said the caring staff helped him overcome past challenges; the center partners with HRDC’s Warming Center (less than 1 mile away) and is discussing adding residential services.  KBZK
