CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday, a Colorado woman reportedly rear ended a Bozeman Police car on Main Street west of 19th, injuring two officers who were taken to Bozeman Health ER and including a detainee in the charges as she smelled of alcohol, had watery, bloodshot eyes and admitted an open cup contained vodka and Red Bull—she now faces three criminal endangerment charges, one for each affected party.  MontanaRightNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Belgrade School District announced it will hold an election on May 6 to vote on operational levies and elect school board trustees. The elementary district is asking for $100,000 and the high school district seeks $65,000 to boost teacher salaries — a move to keep the district competitive locally.  MontanaRightNow
  • Montana State University said that the Department of Homeland Security revoked the visas of three international students—part of a broader federal crackdown—though the government did not offer reasons. On Monday, the ACLU of Montana filed a lawsuit seeking to reinstate the F-1 status of two graduate students—one studying electrical engineering/physics for six years and the other pursuing microbiology for three and a half years—after their statuses were terminated without notice.  MontanaRightNow

  • Construction begins today on 19th Avenue from Interstate 90 to the Main Street intersection as crews remove the upper pavement and install new pavement to improve walking access. MDT crews will work overnight from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Sunday through Friday—drivers should expect a reduced lane and slower speeds.  MontanaRightNow
  • The Montana Legislature passed House Bill 809 to prevent local governments from enacting red flag laws that let law enforcement remove firearms from high-risk individuals; the bill passed in the Senate with a vote of 29 to 19 and is now headed to the governor's desk.  KBZK
