ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Montana Department of Commerce awarded $1.5M to 29 film productions — efforts aimed at boosting rural economies — and the projects are expected to drive $11.3M in local spending. One Emmy-nominated docuseries will begin filming this summer in Virginia City, Boulder, Helena, Great Falls and Butte to air on Montana PBS this fall.  KBZK

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Yellowstone National Park announced that select park roads and entrances will open at 8 a.m. on April 18 from Gardiner and West Yellowstone, giving access to Mammoth Hot Springs and Lamar Valley. The park will waive entrance fees on April 19 during National Park Week — visitors should check current conditions before arriving.  KBZK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bobby’s Law would set a minimum three-year jail sentence for drivers whose fatal DUIs show a blood alcohol level of 0.16 or higher; the state House passed the bill by a vote of 45 to 5. Rep. Braxton Mitchell—honoring his friend Bobby Dewbre—sponsored the measure, and it will move to the Senate for further debate.  KBZK
  • Montana Senate Bill 565 proposes a $150 million fund for childcare providers and has a hearing set for Monday. Local programs in Bozeman expect the measure will boost care services and support working parents.  MontanaRightNow
