COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter in Bozeman runs its Showering Love on Tiny Paws fundraising drive that ends on April 15 to collect food donations for over 900 kittens cared for each year—an in-person event will be held this Sunday to accept donations.  KBZK
  • The HRDC is launching its annual spring food drive on April 5 for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank with donation bins set up at grocery stores in Bozeman and Belgrade. Officials warn that federal food deliveries may drop starting July 1 — the fundraiser aims to collect 15,000 pounds of food to support nearly 2,000 households each month.  KBZK

CRIME NEWS

  • A New Jersey man, Bhaveshkumar Dahyabhai Shukla, was charged with sexual assault for allegedly engaging in unwanted sexual contact on an American Airlines flight from Bozeman to Dallas on Jan. 26—he is set to appear in court on April 17.  KBZK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montana Legislature reshaped public lands policy when the House killed a federal lands resolution on April 1—after strong opposition—and Senate committees amended one bill to remove a threat to state lands while tabling another. Lawmakers acted after hearing contentious testimony during committee meetings.  KBZK
  • The Montana Legislature is nearing its revenue deadline on Saturday as lawmakers vote on bills that offer property and income tax relief—some proposals have been rejected while others move forward. Governor Gianforte said he remains open to new ideas even after key tax bills were voted down.  KBZK
  • Local commissioners postponed the vote on a four-story apartment complex until April 15—after reading public objections to demolishing the convalescent center at North 5th and Ballard and building 111 new housing units.  MontanaRightNow

SPORTS NEWS

  • A new pickleball center will open in a massive warehouse in Four Corners this summer as Andrew Brief and his wife Kelly launch the first of five planned locations in Montana—this facility will offer 13 courts, a gym, showers, and community spaces for players of all skill levels. The soft launch is scheduled for the end of June and will bring year-round pickleball to the local community.  KBZK
