- ➤ Manhattan is starting a project to build a community center by working with Montana State University grad students who are talking with residents to learn their needs — the students will spend the rest of this semester gathering ideas and forming a design that the town council will review in the future. - ➤ Feed Cafe remains a popular community spot after Ally Pitts and Brian Schmidt took over in spring 2024 and reimagined the cafe with fresh farm-to-table meals, baked goods, and a weekday happy hour menu. - ➤ A sleepover among five friends on March 28 in Bozeman turned violent when an argument over a missing $100 led one man to drive through traffic and hit a friend—police arrested him at his home in Belgrade on charges of criminal endangerment and attempted deliberate homicide. MontanaRightNow

- ➤ The Bozeman Gem and Mineral Club, with over 220 local rockhounds, will hold its gem and mineral show at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds on May 10-11 featuring 22 display cases, 27 vendor booths, and a raffle (with a large selenite crystal group from Mexico) along with kid-friendly games; admission costs are $5 on Saturday and $3 on Sunday. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers are debating a $150 million expansion to the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge to add 512 beds and ease crowding while also considering bills to keep families closer by limiting out-of-state transfers—proposals that include changes to the women’s prison and parole board. The Senate will review these measures later this week. KBZK
- ➤ The Montana Senate approved Senate Bill 203 in a 47—3 vote, which would let individuals pay the lower tax rate on income up to $100,000 and married couples on income up to $200,000. Sen. Mike Yakawich said the measure is one of several proposals expected to reduce taxes by over $200 million a year, and the Senate also advanced a bill for a one-time property tax refund of up to $400 for homeowners. - ➤ Bozeman’s new Water Adequacy municipal ballot initiative seeks to protect our limited water supply—requiring developers who pay cash in lieu of water rights to include at least 33% affordable units so that more residents can find affordable housing. The WARD working group submitted the proposal to the City and Gallatin County for review and, if approved, will have 90 days to gather voter signatures for the November ballot. Bozeman Magazine
