ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The wife of Billings man Jeff Zinne, who died on March 10 from a ski lift accident on Red Lodge Mountain, has launched an independent investigation into his death and hired Brandon Conlin of Alpine Engineering (a ski lift expert) two days later, while Heenan and Cook reported that he has not received the same access to information as the resort's expert.  KBZK

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montana State University students said Bozeman is ranked as the best college town in the U.S. for the second year, based on factors like affordability and quality education. They added that the town offers many outdoor activities—skiing and hiking—and a strong school culture that draws students.  KBZK

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks released the 2025 Montana Gray Wolf Conservation and Management Plan on March 27th after a long public review process. The plan updates wolf research, management experience, and conflict strategies — aiming to guide future wolf conservation.  Bozeman Magazine

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Bozeman group called Water Adequacy for Residential Development is gathering signatures for a ballot initiative that will require developers who pay for water rights to include 33% affordable housing in new projects. The group needs (5,500) signatures by June 23 to put the measure on the November ballot and help address water and housing challenges in town.  MontanaRightNow
  • The Montana House Appropriations Committee advanced House Bill 2—an $16.6B state budget plan for the next two years—after over 12 hours of debate on amendments on March 27; the full House will debate the bill next Wednesday.  KBZK

HEALTH NEWS

  • Montana State University’s nursing college and its partners increased rural access to cancer care when Barrett Hospital and HealthCare opened a new infusion center in Dillon in October. The $1.9 million Merck Foundation grant will fund shared oncology services—reducing long trips for patients who previously traveled over two hours to Bozeman for treatment.  Bozeman Magazine

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Kelsey Garon, a stay-at-home mom in Shepherd, started Kelsey's Homemade Baked Goods to help pay for her nonverbal autistic 7-year-old son's therapy bills after he had difficulty adjusting to public school. Her sales will go toward covering therapy costs that can reach nearly $1,000 a month — the new business also gives her a chance to reclaim her identity.  KBZK
