  • After 125 years, the state’s oldest general store in Fishtail will get new owners as Bryan Rose and Celena Ross take over this summer; longtime owner Katy Martin remains nearby to help preserve the store’s legacy + serve the community.  KBZK

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mr. Vale’s Math Class will perform at Bozeman Hot Springs Sunday, April 5 as it rides the wave of its new EP Live, Math, Love—which blends funk, blues, and jam rhythms led by tutor Jordan Vale in a lively local concert.  Bozeman Magazine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seven MSU students will travel to Spain this summer to fly balloons during a total eclipse on Aug. 12 while testing experiments and gathering data. NASA invited the team to use up to 13 lbs of equipment (including a LoRa radio) as part of MSU’s sixth Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project.  Bozeman Magazine
  • MSU’s Mark and Robyn Jones College of Nursing will open four new education buildings this fall on campuses in Bozeman, Billings, Kalispell, and Missoula to increase nursing enrollment, with events on Sept. 18 in Bozeman, Sept. 23 in Billings, Oct. 12 in Kalispell, and Oct. 13 in Missoula (times pending).  Bozeman Magazine
  • Montana hunters must sign up for education courses to learn firearm safety, ethics & first aid. Student packets are available at FWP offices and pre-registration for spring classes begins online to prepare new hunters for their debut season.  KBZK
  • On Friday, Manhattan Middle School students embarked on a ski trip to Bridger Bowl that took an unexpected turn after they heard their principal acting erratically in the lodge bathroom, causing alarm + prompting law enforcement involvement. Superintendent Brian Ayers said the principal is on leave and getting support.  KBZK

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • 350 Montana (a local environmental group) worries that ratepayers may face higher electricity costs if the Public Service Commission approves the NorthWestern Energy + Black Hills Energy merger without further review. The group calls for more transparency to protect consumers.  KBZK
  • Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks urges hunters to apply for deer, elk, and nonresident combination licenses by April 1 through the FWP website (which offers instructional videos and a MyFWP mobile app) to streamline the process.  Bozeman Magazine

  • A guide released Monday, Mar. 23 explains that Bozeman homeowners can reduce stress by using flexible storage strategies to rotate seasonal items and designate specific zones for work and relaxation.
